@Hye: Please send an email to quit@sayjack.com from the email address you associated your account with, and your account and profile page will be removed from our database. You can sign up another account anytime later if you'd like to do so.

Hye 2010-01-22 06:21:07

I'd like to close accounf on this website, but couldn't find information about it. how can i do it?

Lapinski 2009-11-23 13:59:39

@wendy: When you mouse over any audio icon, the icon should turn to green (from gray). It indicates the audio is loaded successfully. If you have tried more than a few audio icons and none of them turns green, it probably means your browser has Javascript disabled. Otherwise please double check your speaker/volume of your computer.

wendy 2009-11-23 08:43:26

I click the audio icon and I waited for so long but I still can't hear anyting. How to solve this problem. Any suggestion. Please help. Thanks

Lapinski 2009-11-17 08:18:11

@anonvip: thanks for the suggestion, and I have been thinking how to set anything up so that everyone can contribute, say, some youtube links to some drama/songs. Please let me know if you have any more ideas about this.

Lapinski 2009-11-17 08:14:09

@Iris: Do you mean you cannot read the Asian characters on the site? If that's the case, please follow the instruction (on the right) to install Asian fonts on your computer. And yes, you can do audio recording, please try it out on the home page.

Iris 2009-11-17 00:56:57

Or do i just need to look for some help online?

Iris 2009-11-17 00:56:13

I can't really read the word's. Do you still do the AUdio's for language online?

anonvip 2009-11-06 19:29:21

Hi. Thanks for the fast reply. And yes, I think the search function is the most needed feature that is currently lacking. Also, I think the site can look at the entertainment side--who doesn't want to learn a phrase or two from a favorite foreign film? :p

Lapinski 2009-11-05 02:53:11

@anonvip: I don't have a search function for the site yet, and it's definitely one of the most important things I need to add to the site! I will need to add a "How to say...?" section for users to add their own phrases too. Thanks for letting me know your concern, will definitely work on them.

anonvip 2009-11-05 02:15:03

Great site with huge potential. Maybe it's just me... I can't seem to find a search function where I can go to a phrase's page to either learn or to offer help on that particular phrase... So far I only see that there are existing phrases that can be expanded but I can't add my own phrase... and of course, please tell me where I missed with the search function lol.

Lapinski 2009-10-03 02:04:54

@Richard: yes, I know what you mean... I am implementing an interface so that members can add different morphological forms of a word in the vocabulary section (It is especially important for Japanese and Korean, and maybe English too). At the same time, as SayJack is a language learning platform, all members can add contents to the site, one day I hope some member will add a set of Korean vocabulary sets with the honorific forms in it, so everyone can use it to learn. Anyway, thanks for your comments! Please keep telling me what you think about the site, anything would be helpful. :-)

Richard 2009-10-02 05:44:17

Great! Also, in the Korean section the verbs seem to be given only in dictionary form, and not in 해요체 (eg 해요) or 합쇼체 (eg 합니다) forms, which you probably know we are most likely to use in speech.

Lapinski 2009-10-01 20:42:52

@Richard: I will definitely put your suggestion to my to-do list for the site. Thanks!

Richard 2009-10-01 05:49:14

Hi Lap! Great site! I'd like a discussion board where we can discuss individual university language programs (eg Yonsei, Sogang, Tsinghua, Shida, Yokohama, etc).

Lapinski 2009-08-14 05:08:59

@maggie: I found a glitch... to prevent users from logging on or even signing up for a new account... that happened when more than one language version of the site (e.g. English and Chinese) was viewed previously. Anyway, it has been fixed, and please try to log on again. Very sorry for the confusion caused.

Lapinski 2009-08-10 00:07:20

@maggie: I am not aware of any problems with the website, other users are logging on OK. How about you send an email to password@sayjack.com using your registered email address? I will send you instructions to reset password. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

maggie 2009-08-09 23:09:25

i tried logging in and i can't. and i'm sure i have the right password and username. i logged in last week just fine. is something wrong?

Lapinski 2009-08-05 16:11:31

@matthew: I am hoping I can get the site back to 100% in a month. To prove that I have been working hard, I added the language exchange feature back to the site a few days ago, and I just added our Japanese alphabet trainer today. Check it out? :)

matthew 2009-08-05 05:50:14

when will the site be back up 100%?

Sujeong Shim 2009-08-03 17:23:07

Dear sir, Hello. My name is Sujeong Shim from bab.la online multi-language portal company. (http://ko.bab.la) I came to this website while looking for Korean studies. I noticed that there are a lot of very nice resources related to Korean language on this page. I also noticed that the language learning program is under repair now. Though it has good Korean dictionaries, I want to recommend our Korean dictionary to link to your page under the Encyclopedias and Dictionaries when you update this site. Bab.la, which is located in Hamburg, Germany, is an internationally renown online language company. Different from other dictionaries, if offers not only dictionary service but also quizzes, lessons, and forums related to languages and cultures without costs. For the purpose of education and entertainment, bab.la wants to suggest our dictionary widget and backlink to your website. Please take a look at it and let me know you are interested in. Have a good day Sincerely yours. Sujeong Shim (sujeong@bab.la)

Lapinski 2009-07-25 10:41:39

Would you please shoot me an email (support01@sayjack.com) or send me a facebook message to let me know your account details? I am sorry if you can't get to your profile but I will recover it for you.

Jason 2009-07-23 12:00:20

Hi. My profile no longer exists on SayJACK after the site was upgraded.

访客 2009-07-08 11:41:29

Nicholas, use Anki or Mnemosyne. They're great programs for creating digital flashcards.

Nicholas 2009-07-03 14:48:48

is the software you use on this website open source? what is the name of the software you use? i would love to use it to learn another language (Slovak) because it takes the time, paper and bulk out of making flash cards.

Sarah 2009-04-05 05:53:54

When adding detailed information to a Japanese vocabulary card, the kanji won't stick beyond the learning session during which it's entered. Am I missing something, or is it bugged?

Rachel 2009-03-20 01:41:31

I can't submit anything with the recorder. It shows up fine and I can record, stop, play. However, when I try and send it either says that my action requires sign in or that an error occurred and I should make sure that I am signed in. I'm pretty sure I have Java and Flash installed and that JavaScript is turned on. What should I do?

访客 2009-01-09 12:44:59

sorry but i want to learn about korea language and translate by english

Lapinski 2008-11-24 12:18:02

dear members, sorry it takes so long to develop the website, i still have a few things i want to implement before saying the site is all ready. (thanks for being patient...) in the mean time please feel free to ask any questions, or tell me what you think about this site! thanks, --Lapinski

Brittany 2008-08-01 18:14:31

I would like to edit my vocabulary flash cards. I made a mistake on two of them when I entered the data.

Rachel 2008-07-07 23:45:32

잘했어요.이 웹사이트를 정말 좋아해요.만들어줘서 고맙습니다! (^_^) ~ 레이첼

peggy 2008-06-29 05:01:37

How can I decide the language to quiz? (e.g:change from japan quiz to korean quiz)

peggy 2008-06-29 05:00:51

how are I add languages partner?

Sungmi_Mel_Park 2008-06-19 00:38:29

I can't see the recorder.. I have Java installed already. and I can only see a box with a red x. hmm don't know what to do..=(

karen 2008-06-18 15:16:48

i'm having a problem with the vocabulary lists. two that i have created have disappeared, and when i go back to My SayJack, it says i haven't created any yet. any suggestions?

Sonia 2008-06-18 06:27:57

I absolutely love this site.

Shane 2008-06-15 07:12:39

I like the way things work on this site. I'm only having issues with changing my profile info, but that's not a big deal yet.

karen 2008-06-14 05:07:33

love this site!! is there a way to edit the vocabulary list? also, can i continue to add to a vocabulary list?

Carlton 2008-06-13 04:22:00

For Chinese Language vocabulary cards: Need either pinyin or sound clip for vocabulary. Just seeing the characters doesn't tell you how to pronounce them properly. Adding each vocabulary word's part of speech would be helpful too.

Carlton 2008-06-13 03:39:28

Not hearing the word sounds in the Chinese Pinyin first quiz. My sound settings are correct and I can hear the vocabulary sounds just fine. Help?

Mary 2008-06-12 18:02:43

u can add the b-p-m-f characters in too

Mary 2008-06-11 02:17:31

can you make the characters larger? I can't see the strokes and differences between the different characters when they are small?

Mary 2008-06-10 21:26:18

it said when you put your full name to sign up, that you would be able to change it later to a nickname, but i can't figure out how to do it. it can't be done.

Aaron 2008-06-09 19:56:44

Why can't one change their native language or hometown info? I know most people won't change that, but if you screw up, there's no way to remedy it

访客 2008-06-07 10:52:16

I am having trouble recording, as in the recorder doesn't show at all. I have jave runtime 1.6 perfectly well installed and enabled in my firefox. Any idea what is going wrong?

Hye 2008-06-07 08:56:33

i like this website, but where i can find other language exchange partners?

Richard 2008-06-07 01:58:59

Interface looks great! And it's XHTML/CSS all right!

Ky 2008-06-05 18:46:52

Great work on the site. I found that when I'm using recommended I can't find the pronunciation as well as the English equivalent. I also can't find a Kanji alphabet for Japanese. Is there one that I'm missing?

访客 2008-06-05 09:38:53

how about online chatting to practice the language? perhaps through skype?

XiaoYang 2008-06-04 03:40:38

About SayJack.com

  1. Is SayJack redesigning? Will I lose my data saved before the redesign?

SayJack is adding more language learning features, and redesigning the appearance of the website. But stay cool, you will not lose any data you have with me. We will bring them all back when the redesign is done.

  2. Is SayJack a free website?

Yes, SayJack is totally free, and it will be always free.

  3. Who are you and why you are building this website?

    Lapinski Cho

My name is Lapinski (ok... it's just a nickname, my real name is Lap). You may already know me on facebook if you are a member of my group. I love languages, and I have a strong computer programming background as well. I came up with the idea of bringing the most cutting-edge web technology to the domain of language learning, and that's why I am building this language learning website for everyone.

  4. Why is it called SayJack.com?

JACK = Japanese, American English, Chinese and Korean.

  5. Do you have terms of use and privacy policy for your website?

    We have it here.

Technical Support

  1. I do not see any Asian characters on the website.

Please install Chinese, Japanese and Korean fonts on your computer. It is easy and you can do it yourself.

    • Download CyberCJK fonts from ftp://ftp.netscape.com for free (or any other Asian fonts of your choice.)
    • Unzip the 6Mb CyberCJK.zip file to get a 13Mb file called CyberCJK.ttf.
    • For Windows user, make sure you have administrative privilege to install new fonts to your computer.
    • Go to Control Panel (Click on "Start" button, "Control Panel" can usually be seen under "Settings"), and click on "Fonts" folder (in Control Panel's classic view).
    • Choose "Install New Fonts" from the File menu (left upper corner). You will see an "Add Fonts" dialog box. Select the appropriate folder (where CyberCJK.ttf is saved), Windows will retrieve the font name that you can install.
    • Install CyberCJK and restart your browser. You should see Asian characters when you come back to our website!

You may preview some font sample of CyberCJK.ttf here. You may find more Asian fonts here or here.

  2. A dialog box pops up when I run the recorder.

It is because we need to ask for your permission to run the recorder in your computer. It is a security feature to protect you from third-party eavesdropping.

You simply need to click on "Run" or "Trust" on the dialog box, and our recorder will be able to gain access to the microphone of your computer. Check the appropriate checkbox to remember this setting, so that you won't see the dialog box again next time you run the recorder.

  3. I do not see any recorder on the website.

If you do not see our recorder on your browser, it could be one of the following 2 reasons:

    • Our recorder requires Java to run. Your computer may not have Java installed, or its version is not compatible to run our recorder. In this case you may see a red mark in the display area. You may want to download the latest version of Java plugin for your browser for free, and try again.
    • For the first time our recorder gets ready to run, you will see a dialog box asking your permission. You will see this dialog box even if you have blocked popup dialog boxes in your browser settings. You will need to click on "Trust" or "Run" to run our recorder. Otherwise, our recorder will not run.
  4. Some of the Asian characters are too small to be identified.

Try making the font size bigger. For Firefox, the shortcut keys are pressing "Ctrl" and "+" for getting one size up. To go back to normal font size, press "Ctrl" and "0".

  5. I do not hear anything when I click on an audio icon.

Please try to turn on the volume, and make sure your computer can play other audio files first. (Try YouTube and see if you can hear anything from a video.)

In general, if you could watch a YouTube video with audio, but you could not hear some audio files from our site, it could be due to slow internet connection during some certain time of a day. We have limited audio recording to be at most 6 seconds long, but it could still take up to 10 seconds to load the audio file when the connection is slow. So please wait longer after you click on audio listening icons and see if it helps.
